At long last- the new LP of hard roots and dub tracks from the legendary singer of Jamaican reggae icons The Ethiopians is available now from Young Cub Records! This 1st pressing special edition 12″ LP is limited to 500 copies on beautiful clear teal vinyl. In addition to an instant download of the full album in MP3 format, all orders will receive a special digital booklet. This 12-page PDF contains extended liners featuring an in-depth interview with Leonard by Leroy Jodie Pierson, co-author of Bob Marley & The Wailers: The Definitive Discography. Also included are photos of Leonard Dillon recording the album with The Silvertones, as well as pages from Dillon’s original songbook with lyrics from The Ethiopian.

The album contains nine brand new, original songs featuring vocal harmonies by The Silvertones, plus players from John Brown’s Body & 10 Ft. Ganja Plant. Produced by Craig “Dub Fader” Welsch (John Brown’s Body, The Aggrolites, 10 Ft. Ganja Plant) and mastered by Kevin Metcalfe (Greensleeves Records, Blood & Fire) at Abbey Road Studios.

“Thumping, bumping, howling, and growling” are just a few words I came across when researching The Rex Complex. A jolly combination of observation and process, their sound has been described “voodo psyche-blues.” Both Rex and Jeremy cite Micachu as a current influence. Their inde peers, Railbird and Cuddle Magic have also left marked impressions. For influences Jeremy lists The Band, Mr. Bungle, Miles Davis, Apex Twin, and a wide breadth of acts I’ve never heard of. As he puts it, “There aren’t new chords…but there are still new sounds and textures…” Hussman’s influences include Johnny Cash, Otis Redding, Bill Withers, The Clash, and Iggy Pop & The Stooges. He tells me his musical ambitions are to “learn a lot of songs by people I like.” I ask when he first knew it was music for him. “I was two years old,” he tells me. He’d heard the Aardvark song on Sesame Street, and he had to recreate it. His attempts were made on a plastic drum. Full article here.
